Soar – Prototype

‘Soar’ was a side-project I worked on, mainly as an experiment. I wanted to test out a few ideas I had with respect to camera movements to capture the feeling of flight. The idea came from an activity I thoroughly enjoyed as a child: launching out of a swing and crashing into a heap of grass. I hoped to capture that feeling in this prototype.

I started out with a paper prototype first and sketched out the experience to get a good direction in my head.

An important aspect of the prototype was the satisfying feeling of thumping into a pile of grass. I spent some time thinking about simulating that, and came up with the following solution for the hay system:
